WHAT IS A SESSION GROUP?
"A "session" is taken from the hip hop world. It means a gathering of rappers/emcees who come together to freestyle (improvisational rap) or share already prepared lyrics and also those who provide the background music whether it is with their mouth or a keyboard or a recorded instrumental. The goal of session groups in the church is relational connection. What does that look like? 1) Members getting together outside the actual session group; 2) members helping one another in time of need; 3) participating in their group through a particular role or gift (host, worship, child care etc...)"
- Ramon Mayo
"I would define it for our context as a gathering where people come together regularly surrounding a common interest not necessarily Christian based. They talk about God, share their faith and fellowship depending on the nature of the session."
- Joseph Olson
